Jennifer Pavlick

Winner take all

" My practice takes as its starting point the affective and emotional atmospheres brought on by current political, economic and social conditions. Working sculpturally, I utilize the proximity of a ‘gesture’ to access a range of theoretical and conceptual intersections. With a focus on labor processes, I hand-make every element of my work, re-directing the connotations attached to standardized and institutionalized facets of culture. The work often references motifs such as pace, ‘the readymade,’ teenage-hood, school, teamwork, violence and democracy, calling attention to the materiality of everyday life. Through exploratory making processes, I look to undermine the conditions of contemporary social life that are designed to streamline collectivity, political resistance, belonging, and the imagining of radical futures."
